A recipe for success

The Western Cape Government cares about the health and well-being of its employees and citizens and therefore created the Western Cape on Wellness (WOW!) project to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Your eating habits directly impact your health. Approximately one-third of your weekdays are spent at the office and therefore at least one-third of your meals are taken during office hours. It is of utmost importance that the benefits of healthy eating is not underestimated. Besides the health benefits, employees who have an employer who cares about their well-being, feels more engaged and invested in the workplace.

As you know, you cannot lose weight on one trip to the gym. Healthy meals and regular exercise should be part-and-parcel of your life – it’s a lifestyle.

A healthy lifestyle makes for a healthy workplace. It improves job performance, self-confidence and happiness within the workplace and everywhere else.

There are many recipes out there that are not only healthy but extremely delicious. Here is one that is bound to tickle the taste buds:

Herbed cheese and tomato sandwich 


1 English muffin

¼ cup low fat cottage cheese

2 slices of tomato

¼ avocado, sliced

1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard

1 leaf lettuce

1 tablespoon chives

Garlic powder to taste


Place cottage cheese in a blender and puree until smooth

Add in garlic, chives and brown mustard. Mix well.

Spread on to muffin and top it with avocado slices, lettuce and tomato slices.
