Speech delivered by Minister Maynier during PT Connect session:

It gives me great pleasure to welcome David Savage who has been appointed as the new Head Official of Provincial Treasury.

His experience working at National Treasury, his experience working in international financial institutions, his experience working in the local government finance, his commitment to building teams and his passion for “treasury people” are just some of the qualities that will make him an excellent Head Official of Provincial Treasury.

I trust that all at Provincial Treasury” will give him your full support as we – together – head into one of the toughest budget periods in the history of South Africa.

I wish David well and look forward to working with him to “get things done” in the Western Cape.

I would also like to thank Julinda Gantana who stepped up at a difficult time and took over as the Acting Head Official of the Provincial Treasury.

I cannot express how grateful I am for the role that she played – it was not just her hard work and commitment; it was not just her good judgement and her excellent advice; it was not just her patience and “grace under pressure”; and it was not just her integrity and discretion; it was that, with all the pressure we were under, she maintained her sense of humour, and we even had some fun.

So, I’d like to thank her for all she has done for the institution that you love, which of course, is the Provincial Treasury.

Then, lastly, to all at Provincial Treasury – it’s been a grueling year. Thank you so much for all you have done this year at Provincial Treasury. Never forget that the work you do and the role you play is important because it makes a difference in people’s lives in the Western Cape.
